Whole grains, wheat, and processed grains contain carbohydrates, are tough for our digestive system to digest, and are pro-inflammatory.
Today, I read a story where the author claims that whole grains, brown rice, oats, barley, and more are essential and a super-food.
If only we would all consume more of them, people would be far healthier, was said! That knocked me off my socks!
Although government-supported dietary guidelines in Europe and the U.S.A advise individuals to eat adequate amounts of (whole) grain products per day, cereal grains contain “anti-nutrients,” such as wheat gluten and wheat lectin, that in humans can elicit dysfunction and disease. Until 6 years ago I used to eat lots of cereal, rice, pasta, whole grain bread, oats — all of it! I became very sick.
I was 50 lbs. overweight and on 10 types of meds.
I was bloated, had terrible acid reflux, headaches, anxiety, and poor sleep. And then, I had a stroke due to my poor cholesterol levels.
I’m not a doctor, and I don’t have a Ph.D. But you don’t need to be those things to understand food and its actual effects on your body and mind.
All you need is some logic and time to research food, its effects, and your diet options. If you do that, you’ll soon learn enough to know the truth. Only then can you take control of your health!
That’s what I did when I finally woke up to my reality after the stroke!
I searched all possible causes for my condition and started looking into the various diet options — vegan, vegetarian, low-carb, paleo, keto.
Keto was the one that drew my interest, so I dove in to try it. I didn’t just do that. I studied and took and comprehensive online course to become a health coach on the subject.
What happened?
Within 2 months, I lost the entire 50 lbs. of excess weight. 80% of that was water retention, which is inflammation of your organs and digestive system.
Inflammation is the response of the innate immune system triggered by noxious stimuli, microbial pathogens and injury. When a trigger remains, or when immune cells are continuously activated, an inflammatory response may become self-sustainable and chronic. National Library of Medicine
I transformed from a sugar and carbohydrate metabolism to a fat-burning machine. 4 weeks after eliminating all grains, wheat, and sugars from my body, I started to burn fat as fuel, the weight dropped off, and I began to feel healthy and human again!
Removing grains, wheat, and all forms of sugar saved my life — that’s a fact.
I only eat meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, eggs, avocados, butter, coconut oil, and salads with olive oil. I’ve been on this diet without problems for over 6 years, and I’m healthier than ever.
The foods mentioned above contain all essential nutrients, fiber, protein, fat, and vitamins.
No, you aren’t required to consume whole grains, wheat, or anything made from it for good health. The contrary is the case.
It doesn’t matter if you choose brown rice over white rice. Brown rice is a grain, pro-inflammatory, and converted to glucose in your bloodstream.
Let’s take a look at lectins, heavily present in grains.
Lectins are present in a variety of plants, especially in seeds, where they serve as defense mechanisms against other plants and fungi. Because of their ability to bind to virtually all cell types and cause damage to several organs, lectins are widely recognized as anti-nutrients within food.
Lectin activity has been demonstrated in wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn and rice, however the best studied of the cereal grain lectins is WGA. National Library of Medicine
Right. Enough quotes. Please read the full scientific evidence in the cited article.
There’s always going to be another study isolating certain food groups and claiming they contain valuable nutrients. What these studies aren’t telling you is what anti-nutrients these particular food items have.
While I’m not a doctor, I’m a human, and I had terrible health issues following the US food guidelines — Standard American Diet or SAD — as most people do.
Ever since I stopped the SAD and studied ancestral health and what food our primal ancestors ate — or had to eat — my life changed.
I lost the weight, my body became strong again, my immune system is robust as I’m never sick, my skin glows, and I look a whole lot younger than I am!
Important note: My cholesterol values are excellent, with super high HDL and low LDL. All blood values are great.
Why would I go back to eating any of that stuff again when I know that eliminating whole grains and all products made from them saved my life? These are facts based on my real-life experience (for myself and others I’ve helped)!
Thanks to no grains, wheat, and no sugar!
In Summary.
I became a severely ill person from consuming a ton of grains, whole or not.
I got my health back by educating myself and changing my diet.
I ditched all grains, wheat, sugars, processed food, fast food, and even most fruit.
Today, I’m in far better health than 10 years ago, and I look better than I did then too!
Biological age: determined by what you consume and your lifestyle.
Chronological age: is your age.
I don’t think about let alone worry about my age anymore. I’m 52, so what? I feel young and powerful, full of energy.
I only gauge my age based on how I look and feel. And I’ll keep it that way until I die, probably into the 100’s. I hope.
Oh yes, and I’m not at all scared of getting old for all of those reasons!
Thanks for reading.
