The notion that “calories in, calories out” and portion control can fix a poor diet is wrong.
A poor sugar-laden ultra-processed primarily carb-based junk food diet will not allow for sustainable weight loss, no matter how you portion control or exercise the bulk and calories away.
While exercising and movement of any kind to burn calories are necessary, they are vital to build cardiovascular health, muscle growth, flexibility, and mobility and support cell-rebuilding.
Nutritious, calorie-dense food is not just necessary it’s essential for survival
- Essential Nutrients (protein and fats) = Your Body and Mind must have them to survive.
- Non-Essential Nutrients (carbs, sugar, and fiber) = Your Body and Mind can thrive without them.
While the required protein intake is vital it doesn’t have to be equal for each meal.
As a fat burner, daily intermittent fasting over long periods – in my case almost 10 years – is easy to maintain as your body stores the necessary amino acids (the building block of protein) for more than adequate energy in a fasted state. Fats help control energy expenditure which also allows you to exercise without having eaten.
As a fat burner, you will also discover you don’t need to eat as often or as much per sitting. Once you have removed the carbohydrate and sugar-burning cravings from your metabolism you become satiated more easily with nutrient-dense food.
That allows you to eat two or only one meal a day with plenty of essential nutrients and without feeling hungry.
Let’s face it, carbs are for enjoyment, which can, if consumed in excess, lead to addiction. Restricting carbs is advisable but it’s also acceptable to enjoy them from time to time within reason, if you can.
The problem with carbs is they release a sense of pleasure and fulfillment in the brain and are very addictive. So, make sure you don’t slip down that rabbit hole when consuming carbs.
If you can’t control and limit your carb intake it’s best to ditch them all together.
Lastly, staying off all kinds of sugar is highly advisable, I’d prefer to say a MUST if you want to lose weight, eliminate food addiction, and become healthy.

Final Thought
Weight loss with the combination of caloric deficiency by consuming real nutrient-dense proteins and a healthy amount of cardio, strength, and sprint training, becomes easy to achieve and sustain.
And yes, you can still indulge in some of your favorite carb-based dishes within strict limitations.
