I’m not suggesting you drop everything, and become a fun-seeking dropout on a paradise island. Instead, take more action to make life fun, challenging, and exciting. After all, we only live once!
Why? Spicing up life will make it much better, it’s that simple.
I observe many people when I’m out and about walking and training in nature.
Most, except for kids, look grumpy, annoyed, unhealthy, and unhappy.
You’re meant to enjoy life and not let it drag you down. I know that feeling only too well and it sucks!
For several years, I let myself down and got trapped in a miserable and negative mindset.
The problem: Once you’re down, without realizing you only dig further instead of trying to get back out into the light.
That’s why I’m emphasizing the importance of being self-aware and making an effort to spice up your life and not be negative.
How I fell into the trap
8 years have passed since I found the light at the end of the tunnel. Nobody helped me out but me.
I didn’t know why I was such an emotional and mental wreck at the time.
But once you get out, you quickly learn why it happened.
You start to look at things from a completely different angle, which is your “wake-up call” and a chance to start over!
I thought I was happy living the family life and taking things easy. But, I wasn’t challenging myself and that led to at first unnoticed unhappiness.
There I was, a stay-at-home dad, raising my kids alone to help my ex-wife restart her career.
What could be better, I told myself.
“You’re a great dad — you love your kids, and now you can devote yourself to raising and looking after them.”
Those were my misguided thoughts after spending 20 years plowing the corporate business fields, traveling the world, having fun, and loving life!
Not living for yourself is not living at all!
I finally realized I wasn’t living my life – I was living everyone else’s life.
I didn’t care about myself – I had no friends and no hobbies.
All I did was run the home, manage the kids, shop, cook, and clean up!
In retrospect, I maneuvered myself into a pretty miserable life.
It was 2 years of my life spent in misery, while I thought I was doing great and doing the right things to help my family. But, as it turned out, it was all taken for granted and nobody cared about my sacrifices.
I dragged my previously adventure-packed exciting international business life into the pits of nothingness!
I was a fantastic dad, probably one of the best! But you don’t get any rewards, praise, or even a thanks for that.
My mind then started to play the anxiety game:
“Oh My God, what do the other working parents think about me, the lazy slob stay-at-home dad!”
Right down the toilet go your confidence and self-esteem.
Finally, shouting at myself:
“To hell with this — stand up, man, climb out of this freaking hole you’re in and do it now! Brush yourself off, and get marching again.”
That’s precisely what I did.
Make Life Spicey!
You change your life by freeing your mind, spicing it up, and not caring about what anyone thinks.
I trained my brain not to care or worry about anything anymore.
Whether that’s people being rude, arrogant, or even thieving from me — I don’t allow it to affect me and my positive mindset anymore.
And I’ve been through a long list of bad luck in the last 4 years, which could have dragged me down far more again.
I got my head together, followed my heart, and rose like the Phoenix from the Ashes.
My daily life practices keep me positive, healthy, and on top!
1 — Writing: I write between 2000 and 3000 words daily, which sharpens my brain and skills.
2 — Walking: My favorite form of exercise, mindfulness, and creative time is walking.
So, I walk 3 times a day, beating 12000 steps daily.
3 — Reading: I try to read a lot on Twitter and LinkedIn daily to keep my mind sharp and informed.
4 — Food: I love to shop and cook super healthy meals daily.
Once you know how food affects your body, cooking becomes a pleasure and a hobby.
5 — Day & Weekend Trips: I try to take a short trip once a week. Adventures and travel keep you curious.
You see and learn new things every time.
6 — Nature: I love nature, so I make it a habit to go there daily. I do that by walking the beautiful riverside close to where I live.
7 — Swim: Like walking, I love to swim.
Relaxing swimming is water therapy — there’s not much else that soothes your mind more than water.
8 — Training: I train my body with bodyweight strength exercises 3 times a week for 20 minutes and add 1 sprinting session.
I get this done in less than 2 hours a week.
9 — Going out: I don’t go out much — food is better at home and cheaper too.
But to add that spice and variety to life, I’ll venture out to try a new restaurant or a favorite once a week.
10 — Red Wine, Dark Chocolate & Cheese: My favorite 3 special treats besides meat.
Each one is rich in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. A delicious way to reward yourself, as long as you don’t eat or drink too much of either!

Final Thoughts
As you can see, you don’t need to do crazy things to spice up your life and make it more interesting.
However, there are 3 things you must do:
1 — Live your life on your terms – not someone else’s.
2 — Free your mind and open up to receive the world – always be positive!
3 — Don’t care about what anyone thinks about you.
That’s what I did to get my life back, create a new career, and find freedom and happiness.
