People have different opinions and approaches — that’s fine. However, what isn’t is peddling nonsensical food advice when you don’t have the experience, education, and knowledge.
At times I’m almost speechless. The never-ending rubbish that some young fitness trainers and even mature MDs publish about food is fascinatingly annoying and frustrating.
“We know that gut health is essential for brain and total body health, so what are my top tips for better #guthealth? Eat a wide variety of fibrous fruits and vegetables and take a probiotic.”
“A lot of people are jumping on the “carnivore diet” trend, but they are missing one key truth: fiber is critical to your health. Fiber nourishes your gut bacteria which impacts inflammation, digestion, and even your mood.”
False food claims by a Neurologist on Twitter.
Fiber is a non-essential nutrient, and can even be extremely harmful to both body and mind! Humans do NOT require any fiber for a healthy gut.
This MD’s claims are completely incorrect and dangerous. Overloading on fiber can in fact cause celiac disease (leaky gut).
“Fitness Trainers,” tell you how to exercise, lose weight, build muscle, and how to feed your body to achieve these goals. 95% of their advice is always WRONG!
Both the MD and the trainers in this case have no education, training, or experience in nutrition and thus what’s best for your body’s health and well-being!
On the other hand, I have decades of first-hand experience under my belt, along with serious and in-depth health, food, training, and wellness education.
I’ve learned the lessons the hard way!
From training like crazy to perform with the world’s elite at the Olympic Games to severe injury and recovery, followed by years of becoming fat, unhealthy, and depressed, to fixing that big mess in 3 months!
I have the know-how — I have done time to get there!
A small backstory: A young trainer, lacking responsibility, tried to embarrass me online!
This guy wrote a long-winded story about carbohydrates being absolutely fine for excellent health and fitness.
I commented: “Is that so, and why?”
The truth is it’s not at all. So, I politely exposed him and his story as being wrong.
A high-carbohydrate diet coupled with heavy daily strength training is a one-way ticket to becoming unhealthy, burnt out, and potentially developing heart disease.
He’s young and (dare I say) dumb, so he doesn’t know the possible outcome!
The Metabolic and Mental Health Meltdown comes with time
I’ve been there and got into a terrible physical and mental health mess in my early 40s.
I was at least 60 lbs. overweight, with a hugely inflamed belly, couldn’t sleep, was anxious, and suffered terrible headaches, and I was stressed and horribly depressed.
The doctor’s office and pharmacy were my most frequented places!
Finally, I suffered a stroke. That was a blessing in disguise. It got my ass moving to do something about my poor health.
I didn’t fancy being stuck on 10 types of meds, including statins and blood thinners, for the rest of my life.
The cause was clear: High calcium, plaque build-up in my arteries, and terrible cholesterol levels.
Remember, I was only 45 at the time.
The turnaround and food that saved my life
In search of why I had a stroke, I studied, took courses, and learned about food and how the body works.
My health declined because of all the sugar-laden, carbohydrate-rich, and fibrous foods I’d been consuming for decades.
I also thought my daily strength training and running routine would keep me fit and healthy – I was very wrong!
The constant pressure and stress I put on my heart from the daily training with the excessive cortisol (stress hormone) released only made it worse and caused my immune system to crash.
Long story short: I ditched all carbohydrates — grains (fiber), everything made from them, all forms of sugar, and almost all vegetables (fiber).
I turned to the high-fat and protein keto diet – I prefer to call it the “proper diet” for humans.
Within 3 months I lost all the excess fat and built lean muscles by using my body as my gym with calisthenics. After 6 months, my depression disappeared, and my mind was crystal clear again.
That’s my story, in a nutshell. I started my clean health journey in early 2016 and haven’t had a setback since.
I maintain my ideal body weight and composition by eating only twice daily, primarily meat, seafood, eggs, and butter, walking a lot, and light to moderate strength training 2 to 3 times a week.
Carbs or Fiber are NOT required for optimal health!
My entertaining trainer reader jumped into my stories, highlighting my statement:
“I haven’t touched fiber or carbs in 7 years!”
He then went on to find another piece where I say that I occasionally eat or recommend certain vegetables (Cruciferous vegetables).
Then he thought it a good idea to publicly call me a liar.
He’d taken screenshots of my “contradicting” (to his mind) statements and threatened to expose me in his next post!
What a nice guy, huh? I told him to go ahead if that made him feel better.
It would be great for me — I’d gain more attention and popularity!
However, public defamation is illegal. That’s something else this poor fellow is still to learn.
My diet and food recommendations clarified:
My goal is to make the keto-carnivore diet accessible to everyone!
That’s why I don’t recommend the “extreme corner,” and to only eat rib-eye steaks.
It’s just not necessary to do that!
Instead, you can enjoy an array of wonderful foods to add to the spice of life — variety!
Eat meat, fish, seafood, eggs, healthy animal fats, good-quality dairy products including cheese, cream, and full-fat yogurt, select lectin-free vegetables, berries, and lots of herbs and spices.
Personally, I seldom eat any of the select vegetables, but I recommend them as healthy and perfectly fine options.

Final Thoughts
The bottom line:
Food isn’t complicated — it’s actually quite simple if you understand it.
Here’s a short 101:
→ Carbohydrates and fiber convert to sugar in your bloodstream.
→ Your insulin works overtime to push the sugar out of your bloodstream and into your fat cells.
→ That daily process causes insidious weight gain, eventual insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and diabetes.
Eating Meat, Animal products, and Fats don’t – The Opposite – They make you Healthy, Lean, and Fit!
These foods reverse and heal the above-listed health conditions — Fact!
