There are 3 types of Carnivores: Extreme, sensible, and incorrect.
Some take it too far by preaching stuff that simply isn’t true, necessary, or even counterproductive.
Unfortunately, these conflicting and confusing messages don’t help you transform your metabolism into a fat burner efficiently and with ease, or maybe not at all.
As a certified nutritionist, metabolic health coach, and carnivore for almost 8 years, I know the extreme approach turns many people off. As a result, we lose thousands of opportunities to convert folks to the diet humans thrive on.
The incorrect “self-proclaimed carnivores” are a problem — they’re still addicted to sugar but don’t know or admit it, just like any other addict.
That’s a great shame and something the social media Carnivore “gurus” should consider before tweeting their misleading advice, poorly influencing newbies, and leading them down the garden path.
My goal and approach are different from most other Carnivore coaches:
1 — Help as many people as possible to convert and regain their metabolic and mental health.
2 — Make the diet more appealing so you don’t feel deprived and negative.
3 — Motivate and make clients and readers optimistic and enthusiastic about their new eating plan, which keeps them on board.
4 — Provide free guidance and help with questions on my blogs by email and text.
I make a concerted effort to reply to all questions and even encourage readers to drop me an email and ask away.
Some readers have now become friends, and we communicate almost daily. That’s pretty cool if you ask me.
Unlike many other medical doctors or nutritionists who practice, prescribe, and advise on the carnivore diet, I care about my patients and clients, not only myself.
What do I mean by that?
I follow several popular carnivore MDs and advisers. I’ve often commented on their tweets and asked questions, yet they never bother to reply!
That tells me one thing — they’re only interested in themselves, their fame, and the income their followers bring them.
What the carnivore diet is not
- It’s not only rib-eye steaks, as many proclaim
- You do not have to eat organs if, like me, you don’t enjoy them— organs are NOT a must
- Fruit, with the exception of berries here and there, is not permitted — it’s high-carb, loaded with fructose, and lectins
- Carbs and fructose convert to sugar in your bloodstream and can make you fat
- Lectins are fruit’s natural defense mechanism and a toxin for humans that can cause celiac disease — a very unpleasant condition
- Honey is sweet and high-fructose — bees are insects, not animals which is why I don’t eat honey
Note on Honey: Some carnivores consume honey daily because honey has multiple health benefits. However, it is fructose — sugar — so I choose not to eat it.
Honey is not an essential nutrient in the carnivore diet. I can reap the benefits honey provides with other non-sugar foods.
What you can eat on the carnivore diet, making it more appealing
- Berries (a handful every other day)
- High-fat nuts (same as above)
- All kinds and colors of meat, fish, seafood, and eggs (primary foods)
- High-fat dairy: butter, yogurt, raw milk, whipping cream, and cheese
- 75% and up dark chocolate (not every day)
- Coconut oil to drink and cook with
- Lectin-free Cruciferous vegetables if you like them (but very limited only as they contain carbs)
- Avocados
- Herbs and spices
- Red wine in moderation (high in antioxidants and low-carb)
When you consider my “what can I eat carnivore food list,” you see plenty of variety and items you can “spice up” your weekly meals with.
That way, you’ll never get bored and easily stay the course.

Final Thoughts
Please be careful who you listen to and follow on social media and what they tell you to eat.
The carnivore diet isn’t only about meat, organs, and fat. That’s a silly myth that only fanatics follow.
You can customize the carnivore diet to what’s most appealing and works best for you.
For your first 3 months, I strongly recommend not eating any vegetables, dark chocolate, or berries.
Why? The aim is to 100% ditch your sweet tooth and sugar addiction, which is why you must avoid the “taste” of sweetness.
