Of course, we all get older every day — there’s nothing you can do about that thing called time. But your actions and lifestyle can control how you look and feel and buy you more time!
I didn’t know that when I was 20, 30, or 40. It took me a while to realize I wasted my time worrying about getting old.
My big worry in my 40s was hitting 50 because turning 40 sucked — I dreaded the big 5.0. rolling my way.
Then what? From 50 onwards, it’s going to be all downhill.
And I would think this nonsense to myself:
• Your looks and face fades away
• Your body goes flop
• Your sex drive takes a dive
• You become fat and unhealthy
Game Over!
All the fun times you had in the first 50 years are gone — life’s a chore, and you’re now officially old and expected to act so.
What’s the point in living life when you’ve lost your best attributes and the power of love and life?
Back then, I’d do my best not to think about it — but I often did, which, as noted, turned out to be a big waste of my precious time.
But thankfully, I got another chance and saved my butt!
To my wonderful surprise, I discovered I was completely wrong.
There are 2 ways to age, and you can choose the way you go:
- The Active Mindset & Lifestyle: Stay young in body and mind, and keep enjoying life to your maximum.
- The Passive Mindset & Lifestyle: Let your body and mind go, and the excitement of life fade.
The best choice should be clear to everyone → Number 1.
However, for some strange reason, that’s not the route most choose.
I don’t know why — well, I do, and I’ll get to that in a moment — people often start letting themselves go as early as their 30s, which means you’ve got a lot of “catch-up work” to do if you want to turn things back around.
Is there a “tipping point” where you start going downhill, aging faster, and there’s nothing you can do about it?
I don’t think there is — it’s all in your mind, hands, legs, and a couple of other body parts, depending on your sex!
How you live your life determines the quality and happiness and how long you can stay on the “young side of life.”
If you look after your body and mind, stay active, eat real natural foods, and develop a super strong positive mindset, you don’t need to let your age overcome or affect you in any way.
That goes for your 30s, 40s, 50s, all the way up to your 80s, 90s, and hopefully into your 100s.
I’m now 53 and turning 54 in 5 months. And guess what? I don’t care — I love it!
Back to why people let themselves go: It starts when you settle down, get married, and become complacent, thinking your marriage and the new babies are your life, nothing else. That’s when you gave up your soul and will to live and love your best life.
But there’s still hope for you to catch up and turn life back to your side and terms if you decide to. And you don’t have to give up the family to do so — you just have to start living your life again!
My truth right here: I feel better, I am stronger, as agile, mobile, healthier, far less stressed, and happier in life than ever before.
And that even includes my crazy days as a professional ski racer when I was in the Calgary Olympic Games in 1988 at age 18! Those were absolutely cracking times, no doubt.
But today is better. I know much more about life — I’m living the life I’m supposed to be and love.
Trust me — I’m not hitting the brakes anytime soon.
Instead, I’ll keep cracking my whip, pushing myself to new heights, enjoying life, and working even harder at helping others achieve the same.
Final Thoughts
Eat well — Move well — get sunshine and happiness in your life — and live well.
That’s my mantra and what I do to stay young.
