Another wonderfully beautiful early morning for me in Kampot, Cambodia.
Walking along any riverside, beach, or trail is my favorite way to start each and every day that me happy.
Spending lots of time in nature, especially in the early morning, is excellent for your health, fitness, and positive mindset.
I am lucky to do this daily in my favorite country, Cambodia.
My main base is the big and bustling city of Phnom Penh, but I try to escape somewhere in nature in Cambodia every weekend!
Travel time and cost are so easy here, it’s like a drop of a hat. You can travel the whole country from north to south in only one day by bus.
From Phnom Penh to the south, Kampot, it only takes 2.5 hours by bus and costs $8! Kampot is a lovely sleepy, yet still hip and happening city on an estuary that leads out to the sea 15 km downstream by the fishing village of Kep.
The whole area is surrounded by mountains, rivers, waterfalls, the ocean, and above all, friendly, kind, and helpful Cambodian people.
To be happy in life you only need to keep the 10 practices in mind.
1. Get up early and walk while enjoying the sunrise.
If you wake up early and get moving in nature, you get your juices and energy flowing in the right direction, which sets you on a good path for the whole day. Dr. Paul Saladino often talks about the power of time spent in nature.
2. That also means going to bed reasonably early so you are fit, fresh, and ready to go by 6:30 am.
A good day (as they say) starts the night before with sufficient and refreshing sleep. That’s why it’s vital to implement good sleep habits and hygiene.
Make your room cool, use blackout curtains and if you hear noise, use ear plugs so you hear nothing. Those steps will help you drift to sleep and stay asleep for a good 6 to 8 hours.
3. Do a little deep breathing or meditation along the walk, to help you totally switch off your mind.
It’s always a great idea to stop and smell the roses. It’s best to do so while you walk and find a calm and comfortable spot to sit, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths before moving on. That will make you happy.
4. Always think positive thoughts and tell yourself it will be a great day!
I know it can be a challenge to keep positive thoughts in your mind when so much is going on around you. However, that hurdle can and must be overcome by blocking out the noise from the outside and in your mind. It only takes about 5 minutes and it is 100% worth doing!
5. Be kind, caring, and helpful to everyone you encounter, and never get mad.
Again, being kind caring, and helpful is often easier said than done, especially if you are confronted with people of the opposite mindset. the best method to handle that is to block them from your mind and eyes. Just don’t listen or pay attention, and move on.
6. Eat real healthy animal-based foods and don’t drink too much alcohol (alcohol is a depressant).
Eating healthily is a problem for many as most folks don’t know what food and drink is healthy or not. I can give you a shortcut here.
Eat meat, fish, seafood, eggs, fat, cheese, cream, and assorted cruciferous veggies. If you follow my food advice you will feel and look great and that will make you VERY happy. And, if you drink alcohol, that’s ok, just keep it under control and limit it. You will feel much better that way.
7. Find your passion and purpose in life and try to make this your work – don’t do something you dislike as that will only lead to negativity.
If you don’t have a passion or purpose in life then how can you be happy? Therefore, it’s essential to figure out what you love to do and then try your best to make it your life mission and work you enjoy and love.
8. Move your body frequently by walking, swimming, strength training, or sprinting – but don’t overdo it.
Now this point is easy, yet so many people fail to accomplish it. Staying stagnant and not moving your body all day is probably the worst thing you can do for your physical and mental health.
So, get moving, and no more excuses. Set yourself a plan, follow it, or contact me and I will make a program for you.
9. Speak to yourself every morning with positive affirmations telling yourself what you want to achieve and who you want to be!
Purposely talking to yourself may sound a bit weird, but it’s not. It’s one of the best things you can do to keep on track and remind yourself of your goals and aspirations.
10. Always be grateful for what you have, even if it isn’t much – that way more will soon follow.
To be grateful is easy but also hard. Many of us don’t have much so it can be tough to be grateful about that. But therein lies your challenge.
If you show gratefulness to yourself and your situation, you set up a path to achieve much more in life.
Why? That way you are not being negative to yourself – instead you are staying on the positive path and then the rewards and growth will follow.

Final Thoughts
Happiness and fulfillment are not achieved in a day. You have to continuously work on it and keep it in the front of your mind.
If you don’t you will forget and then fall back into the negativity trap, which sets you back time and again.
Stay focused, stay sharp, think about what you want, and tell yourself and the universe what you will achieve if you keep working on it, one day it will be your normal daily life full of happiness.
